How can I help?
There are two ways to lend a hand for your community, you may give with your time or your money. With the KCYLA you can donate to one of our three funds (scholarship, Mentor, Operations) or you can become a member and join one of the committees. When you become a member you will recieve full voting privilages in the Association and will have access to our members section.
What are the benifits of being a member?
Becoming a member is the first step towards being a part of the community. In a community you look out for your neighbors and that is exactly what the KCYLA does. If you are unemployeed, our membership committee will help you find work. If you have a business, we will help you market the business and promote your business. If you like to recreate you will have access to our recreation committee which puts on Mt. Climbs, Winetasting Tours, Concerts, Formal Gatherings, and more...
I'm over 40 but I believe in your mission, how can I help?
For those of you over 40 you can become a part of our Rockingchair Corps. As a member of the Corps you will be able to attend all KCYLA functions, be a member of the Committees, not have to pay dues, mentor us Young Leaders, and continue to donate :) You will not be given a vote at the Central Committee meetings and you cannot hold any officer positions.
I work and my children go to school in Klickitat County but I live in Underwood, can I join?
Short Answer: Yes you can join. We understand that there are no boarders when it comes to what you consider your community. If you live In Skamania, Hood River, & Wasco counties you may join and be active in the KCYLA. Your only limiations are that you cannot be one of the three vice-chairmen. This will continue to be the policy of the KCYLA until someone starts a Young Leaders Association in your county. We still may even let you stay :)
Why have 3 different funds?
People who give want to know exactly where their money is going. Our scholarships and mentor program are so important to us and to the community we wanted to ensure that they could give directly to those funds. All of the other committees must share the donations to the Operations fund.
I'm under 16 and want to be involved in my community, what can I do?
You can join as an Associate Member. This will give you access to our mentor program, you may be on committees, but you cannot hold office or have a vote during the Central Committee meeetings. As soon as you turn 16 though you will be given full voting rights, something to look forward to.
